During my life I've had the luxury of being surrounded by role models who celebrated language as a means of creating relationship.
Ever since I was little I was fascinated with the sounds and shapes of words. My mother's reading of Japanese folklore when I was a child coupled with my father's lyric writing and love of musical rhythms created an attentive ear in me. Though it was probably my sister's poetry dabbling that really got my own writing started when I was ten.
I wrote all through high school and college, editing both my college newspaper and literary magazine.
Mom bought me a filing cabinent to house my words and images. She and Dad always provided all the support I needed.
And then my finest poetry was birthed between 1981 and 1991, our four children.
Returning to the writing scene about twelve years ago, I have found incredible joy in surprising and wonderous poetic journeys. I have enjoyed inspiration that is untold.
Poetry has been my expression and at times my therapy. It has been a constant companion that has qualified my greatest questions and testified to my strongest hopes and faith.
A large part of my life has been spent teaching others how to communicate themselves creatively.
It's all about sharing, learning to listen, learning to speak. In large measure, it's about giving back.
To all who have helped me along the way, to all I have helped, to all I have yet to meet on this wordsmith's highway, I dedicate this page.Cheers.
